Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and for supporting the Charity Cure Parkinsons. My father in law suffers from Parkinsons and I thank you all for giving generously to this extremely worthwhile cause.

The Cure Parkinson's Trust's purpose is to fund research to hasten a cure for this debilitative neurological condition. The charity's primary role is identifying, funding and evaluating research projects, as well as hosting scientific forums to bring relevant scientists within the field together, to discuss key areas of research and technology.

 

A bit about the event.......

Having completed a number of Olympic distance Triathlons over the last few years I decided to take the plunge to go for the full Ironman distance and in November last year entered the UK Ironman which is being held in Lancashire on Sunday 02nd August 2009. The race involves a swim, bike and run with 1500 other competitors.

- Swim

The swim is 3.8km in a Reservoir near Bolton. It is a mass start with the other 1500 competitors at 6am.

- Bike

The bike leg is 180km around the hills of sunny Lancashire.

- Run

The race finishes with a marathon which finishes outside the City hall of Bolton!

 

The objectives for the professionals is to win the race and pick up the prize money, for other seasoned athletes the objective might be to qualify for the Hawaii Ironman, for me I just want to finish! I am hoping to finish in approximately 14 hours with the swim taking me 1.5 hrs, the bike 7hrs and then the marathon approx 5.5 hours.
