We help people with a learning disability to live their lives as they choose.
Story
Hi All
As many of you know I’m running the Wilmslow half marathon to raise money for Mencap, a charity that supports people with learning disabilities. Over the last two months I’ve cut down on the beer and chips (this surely deserves sponsorship on its own), ran the hills of Holmfirth and shed the Christmas pounds. I’m really looking forward to it and hope to raise £500 for Mencap, half on this site and half through other sponsorship.
I’ve worked for Mencap for the last 5 ½ years and the work that we do has become really close to my heart as Mencap makes a real difference to some of the most vulnerable people in society. The money we raise is always well spent in supporting people with a learning disability. You can find more information from the website www.mencap.org.uk but just to give you an idea of how your money will be spent below are some of the great things that Mencap does to support people with a learning disability.
· Support people with a learning disability to get a job or take a college course, or helping them find a place of their own to live in.
· Offer advice about things like respite care, individual budgets or transport services.
· Run residential/day care services and leisure groups that are so important to so many people with a learning disability, and their families and supporters.
· Support people with a learning disability to be part of their local communities.
· Lobby the government to change laws so that more and more people with a learning disability can have control over their own lives.
Thanks for visiting my page and thank you for any sponsorship you decide to give, it’ll make the 13 miles at the end of March all the more worthwhile knowing that the pot of money at the end will be put to such good use
Many thanks
Dan
