Story
The Fowey Triathlon
13th September 2009
It’s that time of year again when we don our tight lycra outfits and get the heart pumping in aid of helping others. It is of course the legendary Fowey Triathlon in which we will be supporting Street Kids Rescue. Unfortunately for the first year in a long time Bert will be unable to attend. He is indeed training a future female triathlete, the lovely Isla who arrived last year, so these mighty shoes have been bravely taken up by Oriana, (who has luckily never seen 'the Polruan Hill').
Street Kids Rescue is a registered charity (charity number: 1124575) www.streetkidsrescue.com. Run by a good friend of mine Duncan Mundell we concentrate on supporting critical situations in particular under funded orphanages. Duncan funds all the admin and running cost of the charity ensuring that every penny you donate goes to the children. I have personally been out to Burma to help identify under funded orphanages of which there are many. So your help this year will be greatly received.
1. Built a clinic for children who had no medical care.
2. Constructed an orphanage school to replace one destroyed by cyclone Nargis. 3. Built an orphanage for 25 children which also serves as school for 100+ students. The previous bamboo structure had a leaking roof and mud floor. 4. Support 7 orphanages with regular food, education and medical care. 5. Paid for operations for 9 children and young people to have open heart surgery. 6. Helped fund 2 school buildings and toilets (one in conjunction with Save the Children) 7. Rented a house where we look after 12 children aged 10 - 16 who were victims of abuse. 8. Shipped over 90kg of medicine (wholesale value over £12,000) This has been shared between our own and other free clinics. 9. Arranged schooling and care for street children.Planned Projects:
1. Support a center which provides education and medical care for 150 disabled children
.
2. Build a clinic in a village near Yangon
Thank you for you support
