Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Way back in May 2006, like many people, my wife and I were over the moon to learn that we were to become parents.  After a very straight forward pregnancy our first born was due to arrive the following January.  Well, not everything in life goes to plan and this labour certainly didn't!  Sam was born by an unplanned caesarian section late on a Sunday night after three very long very uneventful days in hospital! Very shortly after Sam was born he was taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) suffering from Group B Strep.  Group B strep is a type of bacteria that is the most common cause of life-threatening infections in newborn babies in the UK.  Sam received expert medical care and was given the all-clear at 11 days old.  In the meantime......shortly after Sam was taken into NICU my wife suffered two major haemorrhages losing over 5 pints of blood.  Again, expert and professional care ensured that my wife made a full recovery.

Phew! Okay, enough reminiscing!  Now, down to business! I'm running the London Marathon to support the NICU and Central Delivery Suite at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.  This is my way of showing my heart felt appreciation to the fantastic staff for their care and kindness in looking after, not only Sam and Mandy but also me during a very difficult few days.

So, over the next four months you will see me running around aiming to get fit enough to run 26.2 miles.  Should you see me, feel free to shout words of encouragement or abuse if you so wish!  Please please.....help me raise money by donating to this page for our wonderful hospital to help support future babies born here.

Thank you

Darren (oh, and Mandy and Sam)!
