Movember Intro

It's that time of year again.  The time when the leaves change colour, the cycle to work gets a bit colder and the upper lips of men everywhere get a bit furrier, not to mention handsomer.*

That's right it's time for Mo-vember. Mo-vember is the month of November recalimed by men with the goal of raising awareness of men's health issues specifically prostate cancer (see http://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk/).

Nothing against the prostate cancer people, they do fine work, but I wanted my Movember project to be a bit more personal.

My Dad passed away this summer after a brave struggle with pancreatic cancer and I found the network of volunteers that helped out my Dad and my family to be very impressive and inspiring.

A lot of people are working towards a cure and progress is being made. In the meantime, it is an unfortunate reality that people have to live with terrible diseases like pancreatic cancer as the focal point of their lives.  That is why I have chosen to donate my Movember proceeds to Macmillan Cancer Support (http://www.macmillan.org.uk/).

About Macmillan Cancer Support

As treatments improve, more and more people are living with cancer in their daily lives. This means they need more than medical help, they also need practical, emotional and financial support.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It's not only patients who live with cancer, so we also help carers, families and communities.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. One in three of us will get cancer. We are all affected by cancer. We can all help.

*I'm pretty sure handsomer is a word. If it's not, it should be.
