I have taken the decision to do a sponsored skydive in support of Beaumond House Community Hospice in Newark (Notts) in appreciation of the marvellous care that the dedicated staff team there offered to Rosemary Brown (my mother in law) before she passed away recently. They ensured that Rosemary`s last days were as comfortable as possible, as well as being a great support to her family. This is typical, I`m sure, of the care that they give to all patients.

Like many people, I suppose, I was unaware of the running costs of such hospices (in this case £600,000 / year). Beaumond House receives 25% of its funding via the NHS and has to raise the rest through personal donations and sponsored events such as this skydive (taking place on September 4th).

 

To give you an idea of the sort of difference your donation can make;

 - £12 will pay for 1 hour of community care for a patient.

 - £110 pays for 1 night of respite care for 1 patient.

 - £500 is the cost of a week of nursing care for a patient.

 

I also feel that the skydive will act as a way of helping friends and family to celebrate and remember Rosemary`s life.All that`s required from me now is a little bit of the courage that Rosemary showed (plus your generous sponsorship!) to enable the great work that Beaumond House does to continue.
