Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm planning to run the Berlin Marathon on Sunday 20th September 2009. In doing so, I'm hoping to raise some money for the Sakhelwe Trust.

I'm running a marathon this year as I thought I better get one in before my joints wear out. I'm going to do the Berlin marathon because it's apparently as flat as a pancake! 26 miles is far enough without any hills.

Sakhelwe is a very poor rural area in South Africa. 37% of the population are HIV positive, and unemployment is around 80-90%.Because antiretroviral drugs are virtually unavailable in these rural communities, many people (mostly young parents) are dying prematurely, creating the dual need for palliative care for terminal patients, who often die alone, and monitoring and care of the escalating number of orphans, many of whom lack food, clothing and shelter.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
