Story

Salisbury to Saratov is 2032 miles.  This is the distance our Great Bustard chicks have to travel when they are imported. I aim to cycle this distance before the next chicks are imported in August 2011. I will be clocking up the miles on the roads and lanes of Wiltshire and on the static bikes at the gym. I will have to cover an average of over 290 miles a month for 7 months to achieve this - and I will be away in Russia for much of the time, and have to make up the miles when home.

Please sponsor me and help the exchange of some of my extra weight into a much needed Landrover for the Great Bustard Project.

June 27th - Again, I have to catch up on the weekly targets as I have been out in Saratov again. The egg/chick numbers are good. I did mange to get a bit of cycling in whilst out in Saratov but not many miles - the picture will explain why!

Now at 1690 miles and the end is in sight!

May 15th - I had a few cycle free weeks in Saratov at the end of April/ beginning of May, and am trying to catch up. The weather is much better now and I am getting a few miles in on the road.

Total is now 1467 miles

29th March - A while since the last update. I had a week off cycling whilst hosting Mikhail and Olga Oparin, who have taken over the running of the Saratov Branch of the A.N. Severtsov Institute, our partner organisation in Russia. Other than that week I have been pedaling away, mainly in the gym, but also enjoying the dry spring weather. I have managed another 384 miles over 4 weeks, taking me up to a total of 1053 miles.

A big thank you to all those who have made donations - and I hope some of you can join us on another ride out from the Hawk Conservancy on Sunday 10th April. We are meeting there at 11.30 in the morning.

18th Feb. - A combination of getting wet and cold on the road, and keeping warm in the gym has  now taken me up to 669 miles.

4th Feb Getting back into the swing again now -another 100 miles taking me to 550. John Chitty has started in the gym now, so the team may start to catch up.

Thanks to all those giving donations. The big EU grant in the news is great, but is very much for new work; the basic project still needs to be done and funded a s before.

Update 12th January. A severe case of Man Flu along with a Christams holiday in Moscow and St Petersburg, has hindered the pedalling somewhat. I did mange to get the total mileage over 450 miles, but and off to Russia again tomorrow - work this time! I shall be pedaling with a real purpose once I return on 22nd.

Update on 1st December. Total cycled is now 252 miles. The chilly weather and icy roads has kept me in the gym.

Update on 20th November. I am now at 168 miles. It may be wishful thinking, but has my waist got a fraction smaller?

A big thank you to all who have sponsored me.

Update on 18th November. Now at 128 miles
