Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Inspired in the memory of my sister Tiziana who died in 1964 of a genetic blood disorder,Thalassemia. This diseases causes chronic anaemia and a number of potentially fatal secondary conditions.
It affects 60-80 million people worldwide - and this number is set to grow if widespread genetic screening programmes are not put into place. I'm tackling a unique 2,400 km cycle challenge and taking the opportunity to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital on the way.
During the challenge, I will cycle from London to Quartu Sant' Elena Sardinia.
The route will take me from London to Newhaven, across the Channel and then down through France, Swizerland, over the Italian Alps, via Rome, and then by ferry to Arbatax, Sardinia, continuing the final 128km to my family home in Quartu Sant' Elena,Sardinia.
My personal trainer Gianluigi Ingargiola will be joining on the first leg of my challenge from London to Paris.
Departure on the 17 July 2010 at 9am from Cutty Sark, Greenwich,London.
I’m confident that with the right help I’ll be able to complete the journey and make a significant contribution to this incredibly worthwhile cause.
Thanks everyone.
Davide.
