Story

I am taking part in the  virtual cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats to support Cornwall Hospice Care. This is  a charity very close to my heart, having been a doctor  there for 27 years and the Medical Director for 20 years until my retirement in March 2020. I have also had the privilege of being supported by the hospices when my mother died in St Julia's in 2010 and know first hand what a difference the service makes to patients and their families.

Although it is a virtual ride from Lands End to John O'Groats I will be cycling 874 real hard miles around my local, hilly area over the next few months. I will benefit enormously from the incentive this challenge gives me to get out there on my bike on days when the Cornish weather would otherwise put me off, but if you felt able to sponsor me that would also be an extra incentive, and would more importantly, provide much needed funds for what is an essential service for the people of Cornwall.

Everyone has the right to a peaceful and dignified death, surrounded by the people who matter to them most and looked after by people who care for them as individuals, whether that is in their own homes, the hospices, care homes or hospitals. Cornwall Hospice Care supports that aim totally and is a charity that receives some funding from statutory sources but in the main depends on people like you and me to support them, so that they are there for us when we need the help most at the end of life.

If you feel able to support my effort then I, Cornwall Hospice Care and ultimately Cornwall will be be very grateful.

Thank you

Deborah
