Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many young people in South Bristol leave school with no qualifications or aspirations, already disengaged from mainstream society and understandably without much of an interest in employment. They are part of a dependency culture, often following in the footsteps of generations of their families and they are on a path which will cost the rest of the community for the whole of their lives.

Some of this unpromising group are being turned into ambitious, hard working, motivated and well trained individuals who can make a valuable contribution to a business and create a sustainable and enjoyable lifestyle for themselves.

How does this astonishing change come about? How do the people at The Park persuade teenagers who were often serial truants to achieve an 85% attendance rate where three quarters achieve an accreditation equivalent to five GCSE’s?

They do it by providing a unique environment which is part school,  part college, part workplace – and yet is none of them. Young people are taught by tutors and support workers who are local skilled practitioners with an instinctive ability to teach, demonstrate, encourage and inspire.  Most importantly they teach respect to others and of themselves.

Deeley Freed has been supporting The Park Community Centre in Bristol for a number of years and provided the funds to Quartet Community Foundation to enable it to buy the former youth club building adjacent to The Park.  This youth club provides the space to run a Level 2 construction course which we, together with our friends in the construction community, have sponsored many deprived young kids to learn a trade that will give them the chance they deserve in life.

All donations will be pooled by Quartet Community Foundation, who will do all the necessary administration and then the money will pass to The Park.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Many thanks.
