Story

The event...

The Deloitte Ride Across Britain is a cycling event that takes place over nine days, starting on Saturday 12th June at John O’Groats, Scotland, and finishing on Sunday 20th June in Lands End, Cornwall. Broken up in to daily stages of around 110 miles with overnight base camps along the way, the route can be completed as a solo rider or as part of a relay team. RAB is aiming to raise £1million between 2010-2014 for ParalympicsGB.

The team...

Let’s be absolutely honest, cyclists we are not. The phrase all the gear, no idea springs to mind.

Five out of shape accountants from Deloitte in Leeds have taken on the massive challenge of going from beginners (not one of us owned a bike pre Christmas) to riding an endurance event which will see us cover over 1000 miles in 9 days. And all of this in little over 5 months!

Note that Ben has been foolish enough to enter as a solo rider which means that he has no choice but to ride the full distance. The remainder of the team are classified as relay team riders which means that a combination of us can cover the daily mileage (although we are still aiming to do it all).

Please be kind enough to sponsor us for what promises to be an extremely challenging event (for us!) but also an extremely worthwhile cause.

The charity...

ParalympicsGB are responsible for ensuring Britain's top disabled athletes are best prepared to produce medal-winning performances at the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games. With London 2012 approaching it has to work harder than ever to keep Britain at the pinnacle of the Paralympic movement and enable British athletes to produce their lifetime's best performances in front of the home crowds. It has to raise the money to meet all the costs this entails.
