Fundraising for St Raphael's Hospice
Story
Dear family, friends and colleagues,
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well, I did it. I ran the 2010 London Marathon on April 25th. It was hard and it took me a long time (5 hrs +) but I did it! The support along the way from the spectators was amazing and it was a truly fantastic day.
Why did I want to do it?
Because although I'm nearly 50 (years young) I like to believe that I'm really only 30!
Because my best mate was running and I couldn't bear to be left out!
Because I wanted to get my revenge on the Womble that overtook me at mile 22 when I last ran it nine years ago in 2001(I think it might have beaten me again-oh well there's always next year)!
Because St Raphael's Hospice provides a vital service to the local community but, like most voluntary hospices, it only gets approximately 30% of its funding from the NHS and, as a nurse who has worked at the Hospice for nearly 14 years, I know how hard the fund raising department has to work in order to keep the donations coming in.
And finally............
Because I wanted to do something in memory of Idwal who was always there for me, who I miss, and who I know would have approved.
