Story

So for my next challenge........MOUNT KILIMANJARO!!!!!  You may think it looked easy on Comic Relief, but believe me, we won't have the kind of facilities and support they had!!!

Deciding on a charity for this challenge was very hard as I have always raised money for a charity close to my heart due to my Nephew passing away 5 years ago, however they are unable to ringfence the monies raised to use for a specific project and as they are quite a large charity, I have decided against it this time!!!

I really want to make a difference to a small charity who are suffering from little or no donations due to the widespread publicity and campaigning for Haiti and Sport Relief, as well as those charities who are commonly known and those with media coverage!!  After hours surfing the internet and many phone calls later, I agreed that I would raise money and awareness for the A-T Society (Ataxia-Telangiectasia).

During my time with Maureen and Richard at the A-Society, I was advised that they are unable to provide an activity weekend this year for those suffering with A-T due to the lack of funding!!!  This weekend costs in the region of £7,000 - a small amount when you think of the long-term results a weekend of fun can give to those with a short life.  Please help me make this happen......smile and laughter.............a fantastic memory for them and for their families.......can you think of a better gift!!??!!

The A-T Society is a charity local to my home town whose objective is to find a cure or at least treatment for a rare, neurodegenerative and progressive condition which starts in early childhood causing severe disability and premature death.  However, they are also committed to supporting families affected by the condition as well as improving quality and length of life through their 2 specialist A-T clinics in Nottingham and Papworth (Cambridgeshire).

A-T affects many parts of the body, robbing a child of their independence, with a wheelchair usually needed by the age of 10!!!!  In order to maintain and develop their work, they rely heavily on the generosity of supporters and the rarity of the condition means they are unable to enjoy widespread appeals!

Please help me raise a huge amount of money for a hard-working and well-deserved charity!

All methods of donations welcome - therefore if you would prefer to give me cash or a cheque rather than donate via this page, then please let me know and I will be happy to arrange for your details to be added to my sponsorship forms!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now - also please pass the link to this page to your family, friends, dog walker, baby-sitter, postman, milkman, train buddy (you get the drill!!!!)

Thank you,

from Leah and all at the A-T Society xxxx
