Edinburgh Group raising funds for Crohn's & Colitis UK · 16 August 2012

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Brilliant night at the ceilidh at Sr Brides on Friday. An amazing £1,600 raised. Thanks to all who took part.

The Edinburgh Group is made up of a number of volunteers who are/have been personally affected by Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.  Together we organise fun fundraising and social events as well as medical talks and publishing a regular newsletter.  Get in touch with us on edinburgh@groups.crohnsandcolitis.org.uk if you would like to find out more or get involved.

Crohn's and Colitis UK aims to improve life for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the most common forms being Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Together these conditions affect about 250,000 people in the United Kingdom.

Both conditions come under the heading of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). This is because the intestines become swollen, inflamed and ulcerated. Symptoms can include pain in the abdomen, weight loss, diarrhoea (sometimes with blood or mucus) and tiredness. The symptoms will vary in severity from one person to another and may flare up or improve unpredictably. Many patients will experience some periods of remission, when they are free from symptoms. Some people may also experience swollen joints, mouth ulcers, inflamed eyes or rashes on their body.
