We provide palliative and end-of-life care to adults with a life-limiting illness

Story

Two weeks ago my father, David Danson, passed away after a short battle with bowel cancer. My whole family is devastated to have lost Dad. He was the most incredible husband, father, grandfather and friend. I miss him dearly every day.

Only 12 weeks ago he was at Twickenham with me and his two grandsons, Joe and Charlie, enjoying the rugby 7s. Shortly after this he fell ill and was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. It moved fast and aggressively. There was nothing anyone could have done, and so a month ago he was moved to The Countess of Brecknock Hospice where he spent the last two weeks of his life with his family, being cared for by the Hospice’s wonderful team of doctors and nurses.

The Countess of Brecknock Hospice provides respite and palliative care to adults suffering from life-limiting illness who live in Andover and its surrounding villages or who have a connection with the area, together with comfort and support for their families, friends and carers. They are hugely reliant on voluntary donations to maintain the exceptionally high standard of services and care they provide. Put simply, if we don't support the Hospice, it won't be there to help when it is needed.

Therefore I humbly ask that you give whatever you can to support this wonderful charity and their amazing staff.

On Sunday I will take on the Great North Run in Newcastle in Dad’s memory. He was the best father and friend I could have ever hoped for and I will spend the rest of my life trying to live up to his example.

I love you Dad. X
