Story

Bowel Cancer UK is our Charity of the Year again this year and
they need us more than ever.
The charity has lost 40% of its income
because of the pandemic and Edwards & Co. aims to raised £40,000 to help
bridge the funding gap.

Bowel Cancer is Northern Ireland’s second biggest cancer killer.
Around 1,100 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer here every year, but poor
awareness means that only 1 in 10 cases are detected at an early stage which
often means it is too late to be treated.

So each month we’re organising a COVID-restricted fundraiser. In September Staff took part in a 5K socially distanced ‘Walk Together’, in October a walk up Cavehill and a FitnessChallenge with built-in donations and penalties in November. A ‘Santa Dash (orDander)’ is planned for December in St Anne’s Square in the Cathedral Quarter.Local Bowel Cancer Ambassador Pamela Ballantine joined with the firm in severalof the events and will also be donning her Santa Hat for the ‘Santa Dash’.

The death of a close friend of the Senior Partner at Edwards & Co from Bowel Cancer inspired what is now a long-established relationship with Bowel Cancer UK. As a result of previous fund-raising
efforts, the charity was able to fund two fulltime members of staff in Northern Ireland to raise awareness, lobby the devolved administration at Stormont and help prevent unnecessary deaths.
Covid-19 restrictions have meant there have had to be cuts to staffing levels including the loss of one of the two posts originally supported.

Please help our fundraising efforts to make sure no further losses result from the impact of COVID this year and help us save lives.
