We have taken on the challenge of running the Brighton half Marathon
On 19 February 2012
After starting to run 3 years ago and mainly sticking to 10k routes we decided as our big 40's were looming that it was a good time to take on this challenge - it seemed like a good idea at the time!!
If we're going to run 13 miles we might as well make it worthwile. Please take the time to read about our good friend Jo's daughter Lucy who is in and out of Great Ormond Street hospital who is under the Gastroenterology team....
We will be helping to raise funds for the Gastroenterology team and their research project at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This research project is already giving benefit to the management of Lucy's condition.
The project is looking into understanding the genetic causes and improving therapies for inflammatory bowel disease.
Lucy has had a 'gastro' condition since birth and last year she had 2 major abdominal surgeries at the hospital-she was an in-patient for 9 weeks with the complications that arose. She has had part of her colon removed and copes daily with an ileostomy and a direct opening to her colon.
Lucy's condition is very complex and rare, it required the input and management from the top gastroenterologists and surgeons in the country. They never give up, even though it isn't clear what will happen next.
This is why raising the funds is so crucial- the more they can learn, the better for all children who may come along like Lucy. It is not yet clear what the future will hold for their condition but with a hospital team at the front of world-leading medicine they have the best possible chance.
We are hoping you will support us. Any £1 you can give would be fantastic and keep us motivated in the last few weeks of training and those 13 long miles on the 19th Feb.
Best wishes
Elisa and Helen
