Ten years ago I ran the London Marathon. I raised a lot of money with the generous support of my friends and family. Since then I’ve run plenty of races but never asked for a penny....until now!

This September I’ve signed up for two half marathons, two weeks apart! 

On the 23rd September I’m joining the Churches in Winchester who are running the Winchester Half Marathon to fundraise for the new Winchester Hospice for Hampshire Hospitals Charity, whose aim is to provide local palliative and end of life care for local people. Currently there is no hospice provision in the area, and patients requiring hospice care and services travel to Andover, West End or Basingstoke.

Our aim is to raise funds to restore Burrell House, a 2 storey building within the grounds of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, to develop a hospice. This will provide 10 ensuite inpatient beds offering local specialist palliative and end life care for patients with life limiting illnesses, and their families. We will also offer therapy, day services and out patient facilities. The service will incorporate the existing Hampshire Hospitals Home Care Support Team, who currently provide care at home for patients at the end of their life, and will enable a new Hospice and Home service to provide overnight care and support for those most in need in the Winchester area.
