Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
I am running the London Marathon to raise money for CARDIOMYOPATHYUK. This is a charity that means a lot to my friend Hannah and we have both decided to run the marathon to help raise much needed money for it.
Hannah's Dad, Geoff, was a very fit man but at the age 44 he was struck with a mystery illness. After many years of tests her Dad was diagnosed in 1997 with something called Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy, something that changed his life completely! I first became friends with Hannah only a couple of years after he was diagnosed and so I've seen the impact this illness has had on Hannah's family for myself.
He was forced to retire from his job [policeman] and it took a long time for him to accept the impact of his illness.
Over the years his health has deteriorated and he's had various treatments... [pacemaker Defibrillator, and heart surgery], all to try and help him but sadly there is no cure. Cardiomyopathy affects over 160,000 people of all ages, including babies, across the UK. Young talented athletes have succumbed to this illness and in many cases the first indication is they collapse with cardiac arrest.
CardiomyopathyUK is a charity that supports people like Geoff and his family. It not only gives a point of contact/information but is at the forefront of medical research into this illness.
Please help us raise as much money as possible and make this massive challenge worth while! Every penny counts!!!! 😊
Thanks
Emma .
