Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

Some people run, jog, walk, or bike for the causes they believe in. I
don’t do any of those things, because all of those things involve sweat and physical pain. But now, finally, there’s a fundraiser for the brittle-jointed among us: Scrivathon is a 24-hour writing sprint, where writers from all over the world join together (remotely, safely shielded from actual physical contact with other introverts) to write as many words as they can while raising money for Syria Relief.

On November 12, I’ll be joining the other Word Warriors and attempting
to write 3,500 words in a 24-hour period. Lest this number sound insignificant, let me put it into perspective. My personal best word count for a single day is 2,161. Stephen King, one of the most prolific writers of our day, averages about 2,000 words a day. Hemingway targeted about 500. And George R.R. Martin appears to average, oh, let's just say 5 words a day. (Kidding, Georgie! Don't let the fame get to you!) Believe me, 3,500 non-garbagy words is a lot. Just like people train for a marathon, I’ve been training for Scrivathon, working daily word sprints before dawn for the past several weeks.

For 3,500 words, I’m aiming to raise $350 for Syria Relief. Ten cents
a word! Whatta steal. And, because I know 3,500 words in a day is a stretch, I’m putting my money where my mouth is: if I fail to meet my word count goal, I will personally match every donation I receive (up to $350). If I DO meet my word count goal, I’ll be about 25% closer to finishing the second draft of my novel, which has already gained interest from an agent—in one day!

How can you help? Donate right here on this page! Can’t spare the money right now? I get it. Maybe you’ll want to share this fundraising page on the social media platform of your choice instead.

I'll be tracking my word count progress on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/erin.cosyn) and Twitter (@erincosyn), so you can follow along with the roller coaster of elation and despair that represents every writing day.

Thank you for all of your support in my writing and, more importantly, in our efforts to help the millions of innocent Syrians affected by war & turmoil--not one of us would be here if someone hadn't helped our ancestors through something similar.
