Story

Hi and welcome to this web-page.    I will be running the Edinburgh Marathon on 23/05/2010 in memory of my Dad, and to raise money for Cancer Research UK, the world' leading cancer charity. I began Training in March 2009 and have  ran exactly 1,398 miles. For training updates in blue, and racing schedule in red, please click the 'Read more' link below.  Updates follow >>>

UPDATES:

8b. (May 2010) I DID IT !!  , read the full story of the race here.
8. (May 2010) Well that's the last training runs done. Just 4 days to go to Race Day. A recent highlight was the 'Coasters' relay, watch the video here. I've waited for this Marathon and trained hard, so all that's left to say is "bring it on!".
7. (April 2010) A Great month. I joined my local running club and did a few fast sessions. Had a slight calf niggle mid month, but rest and plenty of ice helped. Endurance runs are a faster pace now, giving me an indication of Marathon time. 29 days to go, getting excited.
6. (March 2010) A busy month so far, ran two great races that really boosted my confidence, and also put in my first 20 mile training run, but all this work was tiring so I had some extra rest days too. With 7 weeks left I'm now concentrating on endurance
5. (Feb 2010) A mixed month, put in some good long runs, including an 18 miler on a very hilly course. Also got a knee injury at work, aaaargh! Looking forward to next month as I have 2 races to hopefully give me a psychological boost.
4. (Jan 2010)  Icy conditions finally went and I'm up to 35 mpw. My longest run is now 16 miles which is the longest I've ever ran in my life so far.
3. (Dec 2009) Training is still on track. Two challenges this month were a virus which forced me to rest up a few days, and running on the snow and icy roads, but I'm enjoying running and feeling good.
2. (Nov 2009) As the days are getting shorter now so I'm doing runs in the dark a lot, and my weekly 'Long Run' is currently 10 miles but will gradually increase, starting with a 12 miler the first week of December.
1. (Oct 2009) I've built up to 30 mpw of running over 5 days a week, I now have to maintain this as well as eating well and staying healthy in the months ahead. Only 204 days to go.

So Far My Schedule Looks Like This.

1st Sept 2009    -  Dumfries 10k - completed in 43:12

27th Sept 2009   -  Dumfries Half Marathon (13.1 miles) - completed in 1:42:1

25th Oct 2009     -  Great Cumbrian Run (13.1 miles) -  completed in 1:40:38

1st Jan 2010      -  Langholm New Years Whisky Run (8.5 miles) -
completed 12 miles!

7th March 2010  -  Haweswater Half Marathon  (13.1 miles) - completed in 1:39:50

23rd May 2010 (THE BIG EVENT)   -  The Edinburgh Marathon (26.2 miles) - _________________

Cancer will affect 1 in 3 of us, so this research is vital. Sadly my father passed away in Oct 2009 from lung cancer, so my inspiration to run is even stronger. Together, we can make an immediate difference.
