Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our page. Any donations received will go towards helping families at the QE Hospital who lose a child during pregnancy.

Me and my partner were over the moon to find out we were expecting our first child after trying for months and we found out on the 20th of April 2019 that we were having a baby girl which is when we hit the shops to buy pink!, We already had everything else we needed as we were soo excited and were desperate to add some colour.

Unfortunately this excitement was short lived because on the 26th of April whilst asleep my waters broke. We went straight to maternity at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead where we spent 5 nights in a Bedsit.

The care and compassion that was given could not be faulted by all the Midwifes, Doctors and Chaplin. They explained to us that there was no fluid left and although our baby still had a perfect heartbeat no matter what her lungs would not develop and she no longer had any protection surrounding her. I tried to tell myself that miracles do happen and was determined to fight this but the risk of infection was too high and I did not want our little girl to suffer so we opted to terminate the pregnancy which is the hardest things we have/will ever have to do.

Whilst in hospital we were given a Teddy Bear from Aching arms, a memory box from 4Louis and some amazing booklets from Sands all which are separate charities which are soo thoughtful and great in helping you feel not alone.

After we made our decision we requested to speak to the Chaplin as we had no idea what would happen when she arrived and that was the biggest concern for us as we wanted to be as planned as possible and know what to expect.

The Chaplin Peter Jones was one of the nicest people we have ever met and explained everything perfectly. We were expecting to be told that it would be different to any other burial/funeral but were delighted to be told that she could be buried and have her own funeral and even more soo that the hospital will pay for everything !, this we were not expecting as I’m sure you will all know funerals are not cheap and is definitely not something we had planned for. This amazed me and although we would of managed with the support of our families I know this would of not been an option for everyone and I can not imagine not being able to lay your child to rest as knowing we could do this gave us a lot of comfort at such a sad time.

The Chaplin arranged the funeral directors, where the funeral will be held and the date/time, although we were given our own options we were happy with theirs. We also requested that we dress her coffin with her in it which he advised was unusual but was granted with no issues. This took soo much stress off ourselves.

This is why we would like to raise as much as we can for Gateshead QE Trust who have enabled this to happen and have supported us through everything. We would like to be able to give back to help other families who will go through the same heartache we have and help make it that little easier for them.

We would like to acknowledge our little Angel Esme Kelsey who was born on the 30th of April at 17 weeks, 3 days  and buried on the 9th of May. She was just too precious for this earth and will be forever in our hearts, we love you Beautiful xxxxxx
