Story
Every year in the UK approximately 270,000 people suffer from a heart attack, as a result a third of those will die of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
In some cases a small amount of Basic life Support (BLS) knowledge may have been enough to save their life.
At 5pm on Friday 24th September 2010, a team of 6, made up of representatives from The British Heart Foundation (Matt Lomas and Ian Cooke), Yorkshire Ambulance Service (Dave Jones and Neil Kirk) and The YAS Volunteer Community First Responder Scheme (April Ratcliffe and Andy Clark) will begin a non stop 24 hour Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) relay challenge in the foyer of the Asda Supermarket, Owlcoates Centre at Pudsey near Leeds.
Our aim is to raise an awareness of the importance of giving immediate, effective, uninterrupted chest compressions in the case of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, as well as raising money for the British Heart Foundation and Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charitable Fund.
The challenge will run from 5pm on Friday 24th September, finishing at 5pm on Saturday 25th September.
If successful we will have completed approximately 24,000 chest compressions each, that's 144,000 as a team !
On the Saturday there will be the chance to learn CPR as well as look around an ambulance and meet representatives from The BHF, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and YAS Volunteer Community First Responder Schemes.
So please, dig deep and come down to support us.
Thankyou.
Dave, Neil, Matt, Ian, April and Andy.
