Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We (Nat Kovacs and Fred Verity) are raising money through the Cambodian Children's Education Foundation for the NGO 'FEDA' (Friends Economic Development Association), working to empower Cambodian people living in rural areas through education and income generation projects. FEDA was set up in 1994 by a group of local volunteers and their vision is to build a peaceful, positive futures for it's community.

The Ksach Poy project is based in Northwest Cambodia near the city of Battambang. The project aims to provide networking and access to resources which are not otherwise obtainable for so many cambodian children. The main infrastructure of the project is the House of Light and Knowledge, which is a free community/youth centre already built and presently running. It currently has over 800 registered students who come to learn English, environmental and peace studies, art, music, sports and other vocational skills and is designed to complement the work of the local school. As well as providing the children with skills for the future, working at a local level, the project hopes to contribute to rebuilding the country’s social fabric. The centre consists of classrooms, an office, a computer lab, a library, music room, sports facilities and playgrounds. The children of Ksach Poy have never before had the chance to learn another language and other vocational skills. It is hoped that with more skills the children will have more options than their parents did.

Up to now we have been donating all moneys raised from our weekly night at Mamilanji to the charity.
We are also organizing other much grander one off events to take place over the next several months.

With the help of your generous donations, we are aiming to fund the building of new classrooms for the massively overcrowded centre, allowing for more direct and successful teaching to take place. As mentioned earlier the centre currently has over 800 registered students but given the current space available, the centre should only be taking 300.

Our plan is to head out there before Christmas (or as soon as Nat's broken leg fully heals), to live on site with no electricity or running water. We will be dividing our time between teaching English in the already existing centre as well as getting involved in the construction of the new building where ever possible.

Please be aware that all funds raised will go directly towards  the construction itself.
