Story

Firstly thankyou to my employers - Thomson Reuters, who are supporting me all the way through this fundraising mission of mine. They are a big company with a big heart.  http://thomsonreuters.com/

Thankyou to all of you who have purposely navigated to this site to support me and my chosen charities Cancer Reaseach, Help for Heroes, the Childrens Hospice Associations, Leukaemia Research, Life Education Centres and Marie Curie Cancer Care..   I am going to need all the support i can get.

Well, i acomplished my 2009 target of completing the toughest Half IronMan in the world at Wimbleball Lake. My mission has stepped up a level and i am asking you to sponsor me to attempt the UK IRONMAN 2010 Triathlon in Bolton on August 1st.  A huge percentage of people who start the race dont even make it to the end through exhaustion, dehydration, wrong nutrition, bike failure, or just not making the cut off times.  I am determined not to be one of these statistics though. You can follow my training ups and downs on my blog at... http://www.realbuzz.com/blogs/u/jasonnawty/fatman-2-ironman-uk-09-a-journey-by-jason-br/

The Ironman is a triathlon which comprises of an open water swim of 2.4miles, a cycle of 112 miles and a 26.2 mile marathon run on the end.  All this is to be completed in under 17 hours with cut-off times along the way.

This is all part of my weight loss program that i started when i had reached 20 stones just 4 years ago (see Photos) with a cholestarol level of 7.2 and a 40-a-day-smoking habbit. I kicked the fags into touch, went to the gym, and started working hard on a healthier me.  I am still absolutely pants with the food hence the reason why i am still 16 stone.  But i am a hell of a lot fitter than when i started.  I have lived, breathed and dreamed of crossing the Ironman finish line since i did my first Triathlon back in March '08, the whole thing took only 1hr 15 mins and even then i thought i had reached my limit,  but limits change and evolve, and now i believe my limit is going to be tested many times at "the toughest 1 day, endurance event in the world.  The Ironman mantra is... "anything is possible" and i truly believe this applies to me on this crazy mission.  It is a sentence that will go through my head over and over again as i reach for my sub 17 hour goal.

This is also a great opportunity for more than one charity to benefit from my mission.  I have chosen Cancer Reaseach to get 25% of the money that you donate as statistcs show this terrible desease sadly affects 1 in 3 of us directly during our lives. The work Cancer Research has done  now means more than seven out of ten children with cancer are now successfully treated and the overall cancer death rate has fallen by 10% over the last decade. A further 25% will to go to "Help for Heroes" as i am ex-army and would like to see injured or suffering war veterans and families get looked after better than some of my comrades did.  The other 50% of the sponsor money will be shared among the Childrens Hospice Associations, Leukaemia Research, Life Education Centres and Marie Curie Cancer Care.  I think they are all worth while causes and i really want to make a difference that's why i have set my target so high at £5000.  But i beleive i can do it with your genrosity.

.  Lastly, a thankyou must go to my wife and kids who have been so suportive through this journey, and to the whole of the "Andover Triathlon Cub" as they adopted me back in february '08 as a bit of a project i think.  This is the best bunch of people i have trained with since leaving the army in '95 after 6 years as a Phyisical Training Instructor, and their humour and freindship softens the pain of training a little.  Cheers guys.
