Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just-Giving page.

Between 20 - 31 October 2012, Sue and I will be cycling 550km over changing terrain across Africa taking part in the “Escape to Africa” Macmillan Cancer Support cycling challenge.

Some people think we are crazy and mad to do it, others think it is a fantastic thing to do and will support us all the way. I hope if you are reading this, you will be one of those people who will support us.

There are many reasons why we decided to take up the challenge. My passion for cycling to begin with (I’m not so sure that Sue shares the same passion!), the fact that it will be an amazing experience despite how hard it will be, but the most important reason is that we will be raising thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support. I think there are very few of us that are lucky enough not to have suffered from or been affected by someone suffering from cancer so this is a chance for us and all of our sponsors to help fund the fantastic care that Macmillan nurses give.

From a personal point of view, we are unfortunate to have lost both of Sue’s parents but Dennis received fantastic support at the Prospect Hospice where Macmillan nurses looked after him during his times in need. This is an opportunity not only to repay Macmillan for the support they gave to Dennis but also to raise money for them to be able to continue helping other people and families that are suffering.

Starting just east of Nairobi in Kenya, “Escape to Africa” will take us across rough savannah, through wooded bush land, past the foot of the highest, freestanding mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro, and over the finish line at the largest intact volcanic crater on earth, the Ngorongoro Crater.

Let’s not underestimate the challenge ahead! It’s not only the cycling for 7 consecutive days, it is also the rough camping, travelling, tiredness, not washing for days and of course, raising a very large sum of money for this worthy charity.

Please be generous and donate whatever you can afford, knowing that you are making a difference.
