300-MILE CHARITY CYCLE FOR FLYING SQUAD TRIO
Three detective constables from the Met's Flying Squad are embarking on a challenging cycle ride from New Scotland Yard to Paris in an effort to raise money following the death of a colleague to cancer.
The trio, DC John Lawson, DC Andrew Yeoman and DC Peter Jupp all based in Barking, east London, will embark on their 300 mile journey on Tuesday 26th September from the Met police headquarters.
The officers aim to complete over 100 miles per day to reach the French capital in just three days.
Their colleague DC Russell Carter, 43 yrs, died in Spring after fighting a long battle against cancer, leaving his wife and three young children.
Money raised will be divided equally between St Francis Hospice in Havering-Atte-Bower and the Met's nominated charity, The MacMillan Cancer Trust.
DC Danny Watts, of the Flying Squad, said: "Russ is an incredibly missed colleague, who brought a smile to our faces every day. All who knew him, especially his young family and wife, sorely miss him.
"We want to support the charities that help to fight cancer, Russ put up a strong battle and we want to ensure others have the financial support to assist them.
"Our chosen charities need our fundraising ideas and we hope this one will raise a considerable amount of money to continue the excellent services they provide.
