Saturday May 14
Saturday was our last official/group walk before the Trailtrekker in three weeks time, so it was important to make the most of it – and boy did we! The Kentmere Round, in the Lake District, was chosen as a change from the Yorkshire Dales and a chance to do a bit more ascent training before the big day – not that we let on just how much ‘up’ there was to be! After the usual donning of boots and rucksacks, and grumbling about early starts, we set off into Kentmere to look for the start of the Garburn Pass, where our ascent of eight peaks was to begin. The route takes in the peaks of Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Thornthwaite Crag, High Street, Mardale Ill Bell, Harter Fell and Kentmere Pike. Fantastic views everywhere, miles of interesting paths that wend their way along the tops of a horseshoe shaped mountain range and plenty of ascent practice. We’ll let the pictures do the talking but it’s safe to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and we even had time for a brew and scones at the cafe at the end. Our heart-felt thanks goes to Charlie Parker and Dave Chatterton for the route suggestion and advice that helped make it a wonderful day.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We have pledged to walk 100km non-stop to raise money for Oxfam through their http://www.oxfam.org.uk/Trailtrekker/TheChallenge so please help us to raise as much money as we can. Your donation will go towards helping the people who need it most and we will be motivated to make it across the finish line.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thanks from Teams 4.1 and 4.2
