Story
'Civilization ends at the waterline. Beyond that, we all enter the food chain, and not always right at the top...'
The Lamlash Splash is a yearly charity event which involves a select (ie. motley) bunch of swimmers making the treacherous crossing over the open sea from Holy Isle to Lamlash, off the coast of Arran.
And it's definitely not fun.
1.3 miles of shark infested water. Freezing temperatures. Hungry jellyfish. Unpredictable currents. Disapproving monks. Colin's Speedos. There would have to be a pretty good reason for someone to get involved in such madness.
Luckily there is...the ACCORD HOSPICE - a local charity, helping local people in their time of need. The ACCORD Hospice is an independant charity which provides free medical / nursing care and support to those whose illness is causing pain and distress and for whom curative treatment may no longer be appropriate.
Since 1982, ACCORD Hospice has grown and developed so that today the range of Specialist Palliative Care and support offered both within the hospice and the community is of a very high standard. Listening to the needs of its patients, their carers and other healthcare professionals has ensured that ACCORD Hospice's highly trained and experienced multi-disciplinary team of staff and volunteers deliver high quality medical and nursing care. Further information here - http://www.accordhospice.org.uk/
The ACCORD Hospice relies on the ongoing financial support of individuals, local groups and businesses so anything at all you could contribute to this great cause would be hugely appreciated.
Many thanks
Mr Lenny Henry.
