We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

Hi and thanks for visiting our JustGiving page to help us raise money for Alzheimer’s Research Trust!

Well we made it ! 215 miles, direction challenges in Chesterfield and many steep climbs on the last day we arrrived on time in Hillsborough. Thank you to all those who were at the ground to welcome us and again all those who have supported along the way. I look forward to the money being put to good use by the Trust and helping elimiate this terrible disease.

Thanks and best wishes to you all

Fraser and Gary

Update 28th March

Thank you everyone who has supported us both so far, the donations and great comments have really been brilliant and reminds us both why we are putting ourselves through this. We have been training hard  -  over the last few weekends we have been meeting up to get training in. A few weeks ago we got to 50 miles and last weekend cycled 18 miles twice round around Pitfords Water. Safe to say the mud we captured on our bikes in the recent conditions added to the fun  and weight on the bike!

3 more weeks before things get serious.......

We both thank you for your donations and so do all the people we hope to help through the Research Trust.

Cheers, Fraser and Gary

The Story

Between 21st and 24th April 2010 Gary Jones and Fraser Watson will be cycling between ( City FC) and Hillsborough ( Wednesday FC) to raise money for Alzheimer’s research Trust. Why? Fraser explains:

1 year ago I sadly lost my dad to early onset Alzheimer’s. Although Alzheimer’s is known for memory loss it is not widely know for the rate of deterioration, mental torture and physical limitations which comes with it. Watching one of your family fade away unable to eat or drink and living in a twisted torment is terrible. The more that can be done to help others through this and eventually find a cure the better.

Thanks to the work of charities like the Alzheimer's Research Trust, awareness of dementia is increasing and that is not only a good thing in itself - but timely. There are 700,000 people living with Alzheimer’s, or another form of dementia in the , and in the next 30 years that figure will double to 1.4 million. Clearly, we can't afford to ignore this disease.

Our Route

My Dad was a big Sheffield Wednesday fan – in fact his Uncle was the original founder of the Sheffield Wednesday Supports Club – and in his later years also started supporting Norwich FC as his grandson Tom plays for them, When I was looking to raise money for this excellent cause it was the great idea of Gary’s to cycle between these two clubs – one currently top of League One and the other only 100 games away from the Champions League (I wish).

….It was ’s great idea right up to when we worked out the distance….training is already underway with more to come.

We have around 200 miles to cycle but have given ourselves 3 nights of accommodation along the way.

21st April - set off City FC and end in Wisbech

22nd April - cycle through and end in

23rd April - continue through up to

24th April - arrive at Wednesday FC (hopefully not long after lunch)

Our Goal

Our Goal is to be able to raise £1000 for this charity. Money is desperately needed to hopefully find a cure. A recent article on the BBC website sets the scene. Please have a look:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8478901.stm

Thanks for any support you can provide us. It’s all going to a great cause.
