We research early diagnosis and treatments to beat pancreatic cancer.
Story
Hi all.
This weekend I will be running in the London 10k run in order to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Trust in memory of my mum (Hafina) who died on 2nd May last year aged just 57. My Mum was a fun loving and very brave lady who never complained throughout her painful illness and kept her sense of humour till the end. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just 8 weeks and 2 days before she died having been to the doctors many times and been turned away with anti acid tablets for her stomach. It is this lack of awareness and willingness to provide scans that resulted in her illness not being diagnosed until it was too late to treat. This is very common with pancreatic cancer and it is this research and training to detect that I am trying to raise money for.
For many types of cancer, survival rates have been improving:
· 95% of men diagnosed with testicular cancer now survive 5 years or more.
· 80% of women diagnosed with breast cancer now survive 5 years or more.
For pancreatic cancer, this is not the case:
· 3% of those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survive 5 years or more. This statistic has barely changed in 30 years.
Thank you very much for reading and for your donation.
Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is the only national charity dedicated solely to beating pancreatic cancer through research. Survival rates are low, so new research is vital. In the past, this cancer received little attention. With your help, we can change this so more people beat pancreatic cancer.
