Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Why am I running the Virgin London Marathon in 2010.
Well this is one challenge that I am looking forward to and my reasons for running are as follows.
At the end of 2008 my father was diagnosed with a condition called Mesothelioma.
Sadly my father passed away in November 2009.
My father contracted Mesothelioma
whilst he worked in the shipyards over 40 years ago. Some people may find it
staggering but the way Mesothelioma works is that it takes sometimes years to
manifest before it raises its ugly head.
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos and is not very common although rates are increasing. There is not a high awareness of this type of cancer.
Mesothelioma is one of the more difficult diseases that people, their doctors, friends and families have to face.
The British Lung Foundation is carrying out essential research into Mesothelioma and this is why I am raising money for this charity.
No cure for Mesothelioma has yet been found but the search goes on and new drugs and new combinations continue to be tested.
My aim is to raise awareness of Mesothelioma, raise money for the British Lung Foundation whom deal with the research and to run in honour of my father.
