As most of you will be aware, my Mum is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Mum has been battling this disease for a number of years now and the Royal Marsden has opened up a further choice in treatments by enabling her to undertake new drug trials. I am running the Brighton Marathon on April 18th 2010 to raise essential funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign. My training has started well and I am up to 9 miles for my long run (hard work but a long way off 26.2!). I am also running the Brighton Half Marathon on 21st February as part of my training.

Research - The Royal Marsden remains at the forefront of cancer research. More than 450 clinical trials are undertaken each year to ensure patients continue to benefit from the latest advances in cancer care.

The hospital recently opened its Drug Development Unit which provides doctors and scientists with a purpose built facility to research the next generation of drugs for adult and childhood cancers. The new unit, funded by the Cancer Campaign, brings fresh hope to patients as well as the knowledge their involvement serves as a legacy for the future.

Treatment - The Royal Marsden provides extensive inpatient, day-care and outpatient services for adults and children with all types of cancer, including common cancers, haematological cancers and rarer form of the disease. The hospital also offers a full range of specialist services from critical care to rehabilitation and palliative care.

Please give generously to enable the Royal Marsden to continue its excellent work in cancer research and treatment
