Story

THEY MADE IT!!

At 25C it was the hottest day of the year so far, but that didn't stop the guys from reaching their goals of completing the Edinburgh Marathon 2010. We went up to offer morale support (and enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Edinburgh!). We watched the race at the 13 mile mark and spotted them all in the sea of runners and then met them at the reunion site at the end of the race at Musselburgh Racecourse. There was an amazing atmosphere where all the relieved, hot & weary runners congregated after collecting their well earned medals.

In the boiling hot conditions they all achieved impressive times, ranging from just under 4 hrs to 4 hrs 49 mins.

Tim, Damien and Martin have raised over £2,700 through generous donations to this site.

Two other friends (Colin Shepherd & Chris Cox) also ran the marathon and by taking sponsor forms round their workplaces/friends have raised a further £690 which is tremendous.

This brings our grand total to almost £3,400 and Santander will match ALL of it which is FANTASTIC! With Gift Aid that takes the total raised to a massive £7,500!

This money will all go to the charity that has been set up to research into what causes Moebius Syndrome www.moebiusresearchtrust.org  We can't thank them enough for all their efforts. The couple who set up the charity, (Dionne & Colin Read whose 7 year old son George also has Moebius Syndrome) live in Edinburgh. We met up with them on Sunday to watch the runners and to meet them at the end of the race. They were so grateful for all the donations we have received.

There is still time to donate if you haven't had chance so far. Thank you all so much for your generosity. It means a lot.

I've added a few photos of after the race, where I think they look remarkably fresh given what they'd just put themselves through! Gemma and George get in on the scene at this stage!

Thank you for visiting Gemma's fundraising page. We are raising money for the Moebius Research Trust (MRT) charity.

Gemma has Moebius Syndrome, a very rare condition that affects about 200 people in the UK. This means there is very little research into it. The MRT has been set up to raise money to fund research into what causes this condition. For more information you can visit www.moebiusresearchtrust.org

Please support us with as much or as little as you can afford, every penny counts towards the much needed research.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you very much

Moebius Syndrome is a rare congenital disorder which to date, has no cure. It affects primarily the 6th & 7th cranial nerves, which means that those with the condition are unable to move their faces (can't smile, frown, suck, grimace or blink eyes). We aim to raise £250,000 to fund research into the cause of Moebius.
