Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was diagnosed with Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT) 2 years ago and was finally glad to find out that there are more people out there with similar symptoms to me. CMT is a condition which reduces the nerve signals sent to my legs, meaning that I frequently trip and the muscles on my legs have wasted through lack of use. When I was younger I used to ride my bike daily and I even used to race (despite consistently coming last), but as the CMT worsened, I have ridden less and less, eventually stopping altogether.
This year, with the help of the Bike4Work scheme and my employer, Serco, I have been able to purchase a handcycle and I am enjoying getting back into cycling for the first time in about 8 years. As a challenge to myself and in order to raise some money, I have volunteered to take part in the Wiltshire Bike Ride. The ride starts near Melksham on Sunday 26th September and I have opted for the 28 mile route (there is a 47 mile option, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet).
The money I raise will be split between the BHF who are organising the ride and CMT, through this site. Please give generously, I don't intend on doing many of these things, but who knows, maybe next year I'll be strong enough for something longer!
