We fund research into SMA to help find a cure and treatments

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You may know that we lost our beautiful Son Alexis to Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in November 2015 at the age of 7 months. SMA is a neuromuscular disease that progressively affects the nerves responsible for muscle function. Unfortunately Alexis was diagnosed with Type 1 SMA which is one of the most severest forms. To witness how this cruel condition progresses is devastating and truly heart breaking. Throughout this ordeal it has been difficult and frustrating to come to terms with the fact that at present nothing can be done to correct and cure this genetic condition.

The SMA Trust is the only UK charity dedicated solely to funding much needed research into this life limiting condition in order that treatments can be improved and a cure can be found. Therefore I'm taking part in the Birmingham 10k on April 30th 2017 to raise much needed funds. I'm not a natural runner so this is going to be a real challenge for me!
