Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As you have got here, you probably know that I am climbing Kilimanjaro in December with a team of about 20. We are calling this our Big Dreams Trek, and we aim to raise £50,000 for Afrikids, a fantastic charity that supports sustainable, commercially viable projects in rural northern Ghana, which improve the quality of life for rejected and vulnerable children.

WE DID IT!!! AN INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE WITH MEMORIES THAT WILL LIVE FONDLY IN MY MIND FOR MANY YEARS TO COME. A MASSIVE THANK-YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE SUPPORTED ME THROUGH THE YEAR!!!!!

Latest news - 15th November. K-19: less than 3 weeks to go

Well - this is it, the final push. Less than three weeks to go and we will be on our way. Am spending the last few weeks getting in long walks - nearly 7 hours worth last week and final gym sessions. I'd like to think that I'm in pretty good shape at the moment - lets hope that lasts for the next 19 days and the 12 that follow that.

Snowdon Training Weekend.

Less than 8 weeks to go now and I've had a weekend on Snowdon with fellow Big Dream Trekkers and our Kili Guide. This climb is going to be, without doubt, the toughest thing I've ever put myself through, but also the most rewarding. Summit night sounds like hell - but I'm sure that beer when I get back down will make it seem worth it!

News update - 17th September

It's starting to get serious now - less than 3 months to go and it's getting close. Having to step up (no pun intended) the training. Getting organised with kit and travel plans. Still pushing on sponsorship as I've seen what a difference we are making and putting Big Smiles on Little Faces.

About the trek

When I started to look into this, I realised that this climbing Kilimanjaro was a huge challenge, and not just because of the physical effort, but because none of what I need to do aligns to what I normally do. Here's why:

This trek demands endurance; I prefer short sharp bursts of exercise.

When I started the planning and prep, the trek was 12 months away; I struggle to plan 12 days in advance, let alone stay focussed for that long.

This trek requires a big fundraising effort; I'm usually on the giving side, rather than asking for money.

This trek requires a committed investment only I can bring - time. The discipline to create that time is as big a challenge as the walking.
