Story

I See You Community Social Fund

‘I See You’ is a new community fund, launched in January 2023.

We aim to help care for adults who have entered the care system without financial backing, the absence of family or friends for help or support and reliant totally on local authority funding.

People in this situation receive funding that covers the care/nursing home fees only and it is very difficult for them to access further funds for personal items such as clothes, shoes, haircuts, toiletries etc. It can also prove a very lengthy process obtaining these funds and sadly, time is not something many of these people have remaining.

Being alone at such a vulnerable time of life is heartbreaking and then to find themselves unable to have the financial means to buy basic clothing, keep hair tidy, buy a snug pair of slippers or shoes is so desperately sad.

Each and every care home that looks after local authority funded residents will have people that find themselves in this situation at one time or another. Many will have experienced just how difficult it is to access additional funding for personal needs. Care staff will often donate or buy the items they need from their own wages.

Our aim is for people in care homes who do not have the financial means to buy the basics of life to know that we see you, you exist and we will help you.

The music single which launched this campaign, 'I See You' is written, produced and performed by Paul Denegri, a professional musician and musical volunteer at Glastonbury Care Home. A true ambassador to the cause Paul has linked the fund intrinsically to various musical projects which use his skills and experience to encourage and support professional, amateur and young musicians to volunteer in their local care homes across the UK by performing live music in particular at the bedside of people who can no longer get out of bed or are unable or want to leave their rooms. In doing so it will help those in the last chapter of their lives find enjoyment and peace of mind through the emotional joy of music and it will also raise awareness of the importance of music in caring for others.

Please visit Just Giving if you are interested in donating or contact Glastonbury Care Home if you would like to become involved with musical volunteering or for further information on applying for funding.

The fund is open to applications from care homes in the Somerset & Bristol areas with a view to expanding nationally in the future.
