Story
Friends,
Thank you for visting this page I have set up - Please Read Me! : )
As is well documented, Haiti has been struck by an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced before. It is a disaster and the tragedy is only set to get worse as over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince face catastrophe alone. The organisation I have chosen, Doctors Without Borders, had three hospitals in the Port-au-Prince and all three have been completely destroyed. This has forced the doctors to work out in the open air, doing the best that they can under the dire circumstances. With the death toll rising and the complete lack of shelter, clean water, and total devastation, any funds being donated will help so much.
I would just like to spread the word and let people know that they can help. There are many ways to donate money whether it’s the Red Cross, Yele Haiti, or Doctors Without Borders. Let people know those organizations are taking donations. There is also the Charity Water group which will provide safe drinking water, a common urgent concern after a disaster like this.
A lot of people donate right away when disaster strikes which is amazing and very important. However, as the weeks go by, people forget about the tragedy as life continues on, but the aid still needs to roll in and re-building still needs to be done (just look at the Tsunami). If you can’t donate now but know you’ll have 5 to spare in two weeks, donate it then; believe me it will be just as appreciated . An added bonus of donating through my Just-Giving site is that it will be supplemented automatically by Gift Aid and also my company is matching any monetary donation I make up to 100 pounds (hence my modestly set target) - any amount we make will be doubled! But it would be great if we can raise more!Spread the word. Tell your friends, your family, your co-workers.
Best,
Tim Brown
