On April 18th 2010, I will be running the Brighton Marathon. This has probably come as a major shock to those of you who know me well, as up until now, the most I have ever run is 3 miles! In the process, I am hoping to raise lots of money for Alzheimer's Society, the charity leading the fight against dementia. You're support is invaluable in helping me to do this, so please read on.

 

In May 2007, my Nani was diagnosed with vascular dementia. For a while before that, we had started to notice she was more confused, and she was unable to remember everyday things as well as she used to.

Two and half years later, after a stroke, she now needs 24 hour care. It has been a really tough few years coming to terms with my Nani's condition, especially as 27 years ago, she was the one looking after me. Even though I do my best to help out whenever I can, my Mum has been the amazing one, being my Nani's main carer.

This is why I have chosen to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. They do a fantastic job raising the awareness of this tragic disease. They invest £1.5 million pounds per year in research to further understand the causes of dementia. Alzheimer's Society staff and volunteers also work together to help and support families cope with the demands of caring.

I am therefore writing to ask you to sponsor my marathon run and support Alzheimer’s Society with the much needed funds to help them continue their important work.

My Nani and Mum have been a real inspiration to me, and it’s because of them I get out of bed at 5.30 am to get my marathon training done. Even though I have a great pair of thermal lycra leggings (!) and some good Beyonce beats, your support will make my 6 days/ week rather tough training sessions a lot easier!
