Hello, my name is Hannah and I am hoping to raise some money for the charity Raleigh International.  It is a charity 'committed to the personal growth and development of young people from all nationalities and backgrounds, including disadvantaged and "at risk"'. Host countries include Chile, Costa Rica & Nicaragua, Ghana, Namibia and Malaysia (Borneo), and I will be taking part in a 10-week expedition to Namibia in 2007 to experience the work Raleigh carry out first hand.

Raleigh projects are planned with and supported by host country government ministries and international development organisations. This ensures that the tasks undertaken are high quality, sustainable and are valued by the communities we are trying to help.

In addition to the obvious benefits to the host country (for more information visit www.raleighinternational.org ) , I will be working with a diverse group of participants, such as:

- Youth "at risk" volunteers from the , who may be unemployed, have little or no qualifications, have suffered from neglect, alcohol or drug abuse, or have a history of crime.

- Other UK residents who are taking a break from education/training or work.

- Host country volunteers; young people from the country in which the programme is hosted, who will have the opportunity of a lifetime to welcome up to 100 others to their towns and villages and introduce them to a new way of life.

- International volunteers; young people from outside both the and the host-country.

To be able to take part in this amazing experience I have to raise £3,500!  So, in September 2006 my friend Andy and I will be taking on the huge personal and physical challenge of cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End to raise some money towards my final total. As well as supporting my charity we are also raising money for Andy’s chosen charity- The Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA).
