Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in a 12000 foot Sky dive on the 1st October to raise money for Battens Disease Family Association.

Battens disease is a terminal illness, with no cure. It is an disorder of the nervous system that is inherited genetically and typically begins in childhood. Early symptoms of this disorder usually appear between the ages of 5 and 10 years, when parents or doctors may notice their child beginning to develop vision problems or seizures. In some cases the early signs can be subtle, to may take the form of personality and behavior changes, slow learning, clumsiness, or stumbling.

However over time, affected children of Battens Disease, suffer cognitive impairment, worsening seizures, and progressive loss of sight and motor skills. Eventually, children with Batten disease can become blind, bedridden, and demented. Batten disease is often fatal by the late teens or twenties and there is currently no cure.

I am raising money to help the Battens Disease Family Association, continue with their medical research, in the hope of discovering an effective treatment.
