Why we are fundraising

Macmillan is a national charity with local impact. Our services are provided nationally and tailored to the specific needs of local communities based on cancer incidence and unmet needs.

Cancer is a cause that that touches everyone and the need is now greater than ever, with 904 cancer diagnosis every year in Harrogate alone. Almost 1 in 2 of us will recieve a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime and it is estimated that by 2030 the number of people living locally with cancer will have almost doubled. It is the toughest fight that many of us will ever have to face, and Macmillan believes that nobody should face cancer alone.

The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre at Harrogate District Hopsital opened it's doors last year to provide free, confidential support and information for everyone affected by cancer. As well as housing the hospitals brand new chemo unit, the centre offers welfare benefits advice and support, physiological and complimentary therapies, signpostiong to other services and patient support group information.
