Story
Why the British Skin Foundation?
The British Skin Foundation is a charity that is close to our hearts, having sadly lost our Hartpury work colleague Andrew Beacham to skin cancer last year. Andrew was instrumental in setting up the opportunity for our FE rugby students to tour abroad, having organised and attended our first ever tour to South Africa in 2018, in what has now become an annual event.
In addition to this, the relationships that Andrew created with the top Schools and Colleges in South Africa has provided numerous opportunities for students to study at Hartpury, whilst fulfilling their sporting aspirations. Without his input, the likes of Sebastian Negri (ex Hartpury University Student and current Italian International), may not have had the opportunity to fulfil their aspirations, both from an academic and sporting front.
Andrew would have again been attending this years FE Rugby Academy tour to South Africa. It therefore seems fitting that this fundraising event will support the British Skin Foundation in memory of Andrew and the lasting impact he has had on Hartpury and the Rugby Academy.
What are we doing?
Hartpury's FE Rugby Academy will embark on a 48 hour indoor cycle challenge with the aim to complete a distance of 9,983 km. This is the distance to from Hartpury to Kearsney College, Durban, South Africa, via Hilversum, Holland, where our current FE Rugby Academy students will be participating in rugby festivals this Easter.
