Story

My name is Hayley Multon. I have been a part of Harper’s speech and debate team for the past two years. This year, we need a little bit of financial help in order to cover travel costs, food, and other miscellaneous expenses to go to our national tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Any contribution that you can make to the team would mean a lot to us!

I just want to share what forensics has meant to me in my college experience. This activity is about more than winning trophies (though that is a nice part of it!), it’s about forging new relationships with people from all around the state and country, and its about really improving our communication skills in order to help us later in life. While the communication skills I have learned have definitely already helped me on the school front, I’ve also seen myself and my teammates grow as communicators with each other, and with the people we interact with. I have never been a part of a more supportive community than the speech and debate community, and that extends even outside my teammates. This activity has taught me to be the woman I am today. These people and these experiences have made me better. A better person, a better communicator and a better friend.

I am so excited for nationals this year, as it is my last year on the Harper speech and debate team. I just can’t wait to see everyone’s hard work from this year pay off, under the warm sun of New Mexico!

I want to thank everyone for supporting me in this journey, whether through financial, moral, or verbal support! Go Harper Hawks!
