Story

Thank you so much for all your sponsorship.  I am amazed at how much money you have helped me raise for Wessex Heartbeat, you have all been extremely generous.

The Great South Run was a brilliant experience and the weather couldn't have been better.  I completed the 10 mile course in 1 hour 38 minutes.  I like to think Kev was watching down on me encouraging me to keep going!   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am taking part in the Great South Run on 24th October 2010 in memory of my brother Kevin, who sadly died in September 2008.  I wanted to do something for him and to raise money and the Great South Run seemed like a good idea at the time!!

I am raising money for Wessex Heartbeat, which is one of the region's major charities for heart conditions.  It is based at Southampton General Hospital, which treated Kevin when he had his heart operation.

This is the first time I have done anything like this and will be a major challenge for me.  My training started in May and has been going well.  I can now run further than the end of my road!!!  I have joined a running club which I am really enjoying.  They make me do fun things like running up hills!!!

May's Training - Before I started my training I was struggling to run for 3 minutes on the treadmill.  This month I have been to the gym 10 times and managed to increase my time on the treadmill to 45 minutes.  I am finding running outside a lot harder and hope going to the running club will help with this.

June's Training - This month I worked on increasing the time I could run outside without having to walk.  I managed to do 30 minutes, which I was really pleased with.

July's Training - Throughout this month I have run a total of 50 miles.  I have been to the gym 6 times, and had 10 rest days.  I have achieved my target of running 5 miles outside in under an hour (I did it in 53 minutes!), which I am very pleased with.  I just need to double it now!  Easier said than done I think.

August's Training - I have run a total of 52 miles this month.  I have done a lot more training outside, rather than just going to the gym.  I managed an 8 mile run which I am really pleased with.  Only 2 months to go now!  Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me and enabled me to reach my target of £250, here's to the next £250!

September's Training - Even with a weeks holiday this month I still managed to run a total of 50 miles.  I am pleased with the progress I am making and hope to do a 10 mile run before race day.

October's Training - With 3 weeks to go I have completed a 10 mile run.  It was tough going but I survived!
