Welcome to my JustGiving page! As you will know by now on April 25th I will be running the London Marathon to raise money for The Prostate Cancer Charity!

Now I know some of you are thinking I've not exactly started this marathon mularkey early in life but after a couple of half marathons last year I decided it was time to go for it! I've been training hard since the New Year (deep snow, tweaked hammies and blisters apart!) and covered nearly 500km already. It has, though, become increasingly obvious to me in recent weeks that the human body is not naturally designed to run without a break for several hours no matter how much pasta and porridge you throw down it! Still, I'm enjoying it (I think?) and I'm sure that the great feeling of satisfaction as I cross the line on the day (hopefuly with only limited bleeding of the nipples) will make it all worth while!

It's not easy to choose one cause amongst all the worthy ones available but I decided to go for The Prostate Cancer Charity for several reasons not least of which is that as an over-40's male myself (yes, really!) I am now in the at-risk category. The Prostate Cancer Charity does great work not only in the obvious areas of research but in many areas of support for sufferers and their families eg Helplines, information, advice etc from trained specialist nurses. They are also involved in lobbying government and the NHS to promote better funding and standards of treatment as well as raising greater awareness of the disease with the general public - essential to ensure early diagnosis and greater probability of full recovery. I've also known several sufferers over the years who have had to go through various courses of unpleasant treatment and who directly or indirectly have benefited from the work of prostate cancer charities such as the one I am supporting.
