Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So after a few half marathons (some more successful than others!), me and my brother Jack decided it was time for the ultimate challenge, the Everest of a Humans endurance, a search for the limits of our Physical and Mental Capabilities, like the Mathematicians’ search for Fermat’s Last Theorem, or the Explorers search for the Lost City of the Incas.
Or more to the point I was bored at work last June and decided to look into doing a marathon and after no initial negative signs from Jack (to his eternal regret) signed us both up for the Barcelona marathon on Sunday 7th March 2010 (may as well do it somewhere exciting if we are going to do it!) thinking next March will never come.
Unfortunately March 2010 is upon us, Jack is at Liverpool university (where green places to run are about as common as British Grand Slam winners and French Military victories) and I am in Jersey (where green places are a bit more common but unfortunately they are normally full of Jersey cows, potatoes or HNWI’s mansions).
But it also a great chance to raise money and promote charities that both mean a lot to us, Jack is raising money for Solar Aid, a great charity that combines helping some of the poorest people in the world and promoting renewable energy. See more at http://www.justgiving.com/Jack-Williams.
I am running for Tear Fund http://www.tearfund.org/, they have a great method of tackling the causes and results of poverty: diseases, poor infrastructure, economic injustice, the environment and natural disasters; by working through institutions’ that are at the heart of the local communities, the local churches. In particular at the moment they have an emergency appeal to dispatch aid to Haiti after the horrific earthquake.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
The way training is going at the moment I have no intention of ever going running ever again after the marathon and can’t wait Sunday March 7th to come and go, I am putting it all into this one marathon. So please dig deep and donate now.
