I have been selected as an Olympic Torch Bearer for my efforts in fund raising for the Paralympics Association - very proud to be chosen. My date is 25th June in Sheffield.... what an honour!

I am proud to work for a company who is involved as a key sponsor of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.  IHG is a global hotel company and our Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands,  are the official hotel providers for the games.

I was recently at a company sales and marketing conference in the UK, and the team at our head office in Denham who are responsible for managing our Olympic sponsorship introduced a group of Paralympic athletes from the UK Paralympics 2012 team.  We had the privilege to interact with the team, learn to play some of their sports, their way, and even had the opportunity of a fun challenge with them ...and no surprises... we did not win!

It was really inspiring, to see these youngsters who against all odds, have such ambition, passion and belief - and the support of their coaches and the British Paralympic Association who are the drive behind them.

Through this I thought about what I could to raise money towards helping these inspirational young atheletes and the new potential atheletes who want to achieve greatness and I have decided to do a sponsored swim.  I used to be a swimmer back in my hey day - but alas did not have the conviction toward achieving my dream.  So I figured that as it is something that I love to do it would be the obvious choice.

I pledge to swim 500,000 meters (500km) in 52 weeks -  from today 27th July 2011 and the opening ceremony of the Olympic games 27th July 2112.  I am therefore looking for your help and support, to spur me on to achieve this by donating to my cause in my bid to raise a minimum of £10,000 for the Briitish Paralympic Association.  Every penny will help - and I would be grateful if you will support this very worthy cause and pledge today.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.  Look out for pictures on my website as I will be recording my journey, starting today with a 3000m swim (3km).  Oh and yes, I have an alterior motive  - to get fit and lose weight. I am currenly a whopping 107kg - so for every kilgoram of weight I shed I will be adding $35 mysef to the fund.  I will be keeping photo records of this and of my weight (a daunting thought - you don't have to look!)

Pledge now and help me, to help you to help those in need.

Thanks

Stacey
